WINTER SQUASH (Cucurbita moschata) (25 seeds)— America, a diverse landrace winter squash derived from a single fruit gifted to us from a Burmese friend and urban farmer here in Kansas City. Our friend grew the variety at the New Roots for Refugees training farm in Kansas City, Kansas, where approximately 20 refugee farmers are taught how to grow and run a farm business in the Midwest—the program does great work, check them out and support them. The variety was cross-pollinated by numerous other winter squash at the farm and this is what resulted. We named the variety ‘America’ as it is a mirror of a true strength in American culture, our diversity. Diversity is a foundation of resiliency and is thus an essential component of developing sustainable and/or regenerative systems. United we stand!
